Last night in Cardwell by the Sea we launched the Documentary celebrating 50 years of counting Torresian Imperial Pigeons on Brook Isles with Wildlife Qld patron Margaret Thorsborne AO.
It was a great night and a wonderful documentary. Elder Claude Beeron welcomed us to country and spoke of his connection to these beautiful birds and Margaret Thorsborne spoke of how pleased she was to see so many friends present for the launch.
Bryony Barnett the documentary project director spoke of the film maker Sarah Scraggs and her associates on the project. She then introduced Liz Downes of Wildlife Qld Townsville branch (A count volunteer of many years) who spoke about the count and then officially launched the documentary..
It was a well attended evening with people traveling from Cairns, Townsville and the Tableland to attend.
The documentary was wonderful – detailing the dedication and tenacity that has made this the longest running bird study in Australia – without the actions of individuals, Margaret and Arthur Thorsborne we may well have lost this species.
The actions of all of us as individuals can make a tremendous difference to outcomes!
